The influence of internet game speculative experience on gambling attitude among adolescents : Focusing on the mediation effects of sensitivity to reward level and irrational beliefs

|
The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of internet game speculative experience on gambling attitude through reward sensitivity and irrational beliefs toward gambling among adolescents. To examine research questions, this study was used the data of 607 game players among the raw data from the Korea Center for Gambling Problems and analyzed the influences of internet game speculative experience on gambling attitude with the PROCESS macro method. First, the results of this study showed that adolescents’ internet game speculative experience statistically significantly increased gambling attitude. Second, adolescents’ irrational beliefs mediated the influence of internet game speculative experience on gambling attitude, also reward sensitivity did. Finally, adolescents’ reward sensitivity and irrational beliefs dual-mediated the influence of internet game speculative experience on gambling attitude. Based on these results, this study was discussed the effects of games that promote speculative experience on gambling and practical strategies to address the gambling among adolescents.
